From Experimental to Computational Models
Abstract:
The onset of omics tools initiated acquisition of large sets of experimental data. Different omics technologies enabled researchers to gain insight into complex cellular process ranging from cell to animal models, including humans. Measurements of thousands of genes, proteins and metabolites reveled the complexity of biological processes and exposed a need for new approaches in research. Therefore, the enhancement of experimental techniques has led to the development of systems approaches for their comprehensive analysis. New fields of research have emerged, which combine biological and medical data with mathematical tools to get a systems perspective on the observed biological processes. Herein we will present how different experimental and mathematical approaches advanced our understanding in the field of liver metabolic diseases.

Biography:
Miha Moškon is an associate professor of computer science at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. His main research interests include quantitative and qualitative modelling and analysis of biological systems in the context of systems and synthetic biology applications. He has been involved in several industrial and research projects and has co-authored more than 180 publications.
