Writing a scientific paper – and getting it published

TranSYS ESR 09 Katarina Mihajlovic provides an update on our latest training event.

Nine of the TranSYS ESRs and our network coordinator Prof. van Steen successfully completed a course “Write a scientific paper – and get it published” given by Dr DM Pickin MD, which was held online between 28 and 30 March 2022. The participants followed it together from the UZ Leuven Gasthuisberg Campus in Leuven, Belgium.

The main aims of the course were to provide a plan, the tools, and the motivation, for taking a paper to submission. During the first day, Dr Pickin provided the methods for efficient scientific writing which were then practiced on the second day to produce a draft of the paper. On the last day, the students were taught useful techniques for improving the draft and taking it up to submission. Overall, the course introduced new concepts and helpful approaches to writing a scientific paper that greatly expedite the process of producing a scientific article.

The participants had very positive feedback of the course and would recommend it to both PhD students, who are just starting to write their first paper, as well as senior scientists with many papers under their belt.
